چکیده

The Effect of Carbon Dioxide Inhalation on Cerebral Blood Flow: A Two-Hour Duration Study in Dogs With Microspheres • Dogs breathed one of four gas mixtures (5% CO2-95% O2, 5% CO2-95% air, 10% CO2-90% O2, and 10% CO2-90% air) for as long as two hours. Regional cerebral blood flow as well as flow in nasal, otic, pituitary and skin tissue were measured by means of 15 ± 5 // radioactively labeled microspheres. The normal values for cerebral blood flow and arterial blood gases were very similar to those of other investigators. Inhalation of CO2 induced an increase in cerebral blood flow that was significantly higher than is usually reported. Increases varied from 100% (with 5% CO2-95% air) to 250% (with 10% CO2-90% O2). Blood flow in the temporal bone behaved much like that of brain in response to CO2. In most instances, the pituitary gland blood flow did not increase with inhalation of CO2. Additional

Respiratory influence on the total and regional cerebral blood flow responses to intracranial hypertension.

The effect of respiration on the cerebrovascular response to elevated intracranial pressure (ICP) was studied in anesthetized dogs. Total and regional cerebral blood flows were measured using labelled microspheres. In spontaneously breathing dogs total and regional cerebral blood flows increased when cerebral perfusion pressure was reduced to 20 mm Hg. The increase in regional flows was greater...

Sympathetic modulation of hypercapnic cerebral vasodilation in dogs.

We measured cerebral blood flow using both the radioactive microsphere technique and the cerebral venous outflow technique in dogs anesthetized with chloralase. The effect of sympathetic stimulation on cerebral blood flow was observed during both normocapnia and prolonged hypercapnia using both blood flow techniques. The increase in blood flow with hypercapnia was the same with both methods. Du...

Pulmonary NO synthase inhibition and inspired CO2: effects on V'/Q' and pulmonary blood flow distribution.

Inhaled carbon dioxide decreases ventilation/perfusion ratio (V'/Q') heterogeneity in dogs. The aim of this study was to test whether inhaled CO2 improves the V'/Q' by inhibition of nitric oxide production and whether inhibition of endogenous NO production in the lung alters gas exchange and V'/Q' matching. Eleven healthy dogs were anaesthetized and mechanically ventilated. The multiple inert g...

Effects of carbon dioxide inhalation on cerebral blood flow and oxygen tissue level in spontaneously hypertensive rabbits.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Because previous studies have yielded conflicting results, this study was designed to investigate the efficiency of cerebrovascular reactivity to carbon dioxide in hypertension associated with moderate diffuse cerebral ischemic lesions. METHODS The effects of carbon dioxide inhalation on mean arterial blood pressure, heart and respiration rates, cerebral cortical blood ...

Transient analysis of the canine cerebrovascular response to carbon dioxide.

Cerebral venous outflow and carbon dioxide transients were studied during five different transitional states: (1) on and off 10% carbon dioxide breathing, (2) on and off hyperventilation, (3) on 7% carbon dioxide breathing, (4) on 10% carbon dioxide breathing initiated from 7% carbon dioxide breathing, and (5) on 10% carbon dioxide breathing initiated during intracarotid papaverine infusion, in...
